What’s unique about Kyoto food? Kyoto cuisine uses plenty of old Japanese ingredients, such as tofu, matcha, bracken starch, and kudzu. It also has plenty of preserved fish, such as dried herrings and salt-pickled mackerel, a fitting trait for a land-locked city.
This Japanese food is the food I’ve tried in Kyoto, and I’m going to share how it tastes. Not that famous like other food, but it’s affordable, and the taste was so satisfying.
Tofu udon (豆腐うどん)

This food is prepared with gentle Kyoto dashi broth and rich, healthy tofu, so after finishing the noodles, drink it up! And it’s tastes good. I could say that the soup is unique for Kyoto. If you compare it to Japanese ramen is usually very salty and very high in calories. It is often said that you should not drink the soup after you finish the noodles. However, ramen is the best for me in Japan.
Green tea soba (茶そば)

As you can see in the picture on the left side dish is oyakodon, in the middle dish is Kyoto tea soba, the well-known food that you can only eat in Kyoto.Green tea soba is my first time to eat, and I was glad that matcha wasn’t a dominant flavor. I could barely taste it. The noodles were precisely green, proof that a bit of matcha powder goes a long way and tsuyu dipping sauce on the side was an excellent combination.
Dumplings/ matcha/ sakuramochi (団子/抹茶/ 桜餅)

Hanami Dango (dumplings) is a famous sweet made by sweetened rice balls on skewers. The dumplings come in three striking colors of pink, white, and green. A sweet start to the arrival of spring! As spring approaches, Japan turns into a shade of pink. The texture of the Matcha is rich, creamy, and smooth, delicious as a Matcha latte tastes approved to me. Sakura mochi is a wagashi consisting of sweet, pink-colored rice cake with a red bean paste center wrapped in a pickled cherry blossom leaf.
Matcha ice cream (抹茶アイス)

One of my favorite things in Kyoto is matcha ice cream (green tea ice cream), And if you’re going to eat green tea ice cream anywhere in the world, it ought to be Kyoto. This mildly sweet delicacy has become so alike with modern Kyoto dessert that you can get it nearly everywhere.gey
Few ask me what they should do or discover in Kyoto, but I will constantly give a similar answer. It relies on your personality and taste. There’s a little something for everybody in Kyoto whether you choose to experience over sightseeing, being a tourist and sharing the historical city like a local.
