This island is Kisarazu artificial surrounded by 360º of water, the “Umihotaru Parking Area” is rather unusual, even by global precepts because this is the only highway rest stop that sits on top of the sea.
It stands fifth-floor tall, with parking on the first floor through third, and marketable facilities on the fourth floor and fifth.
Umi-Hotaru, which means “Sea-firefly,” is a rest stop located just as the 9.6-kilometer tunnel passage from the Kanagawa perspective changes itself into a 4.4-kilometer bridge toward the Chiba perspective. It’s a white five-story structure that consists of restaurants, shops, and amusement facilities. This is the only shopping mall on the sea where you can enjoy panoramic 360º sights of Tokyo Bay, as well as various shops, restaurants/ cafes, and services.

With the first three floors taken up by parking space for about 500 vehicles, the next two floors surround a tremendous display of shops and restaurants to pique your attention for considerable hours. If you are craving, there’s a food court that serves popular dishes such as ramen, soba, sushi, and tempura. For those in desire of something more Western-style, there’s a hamburger joint, a Starbucks, and a Hawaiian restaurant accompanied by impressive views.
For dessert, Recommend trying an Italian yogurt, coned ice cream, or a choice of cakes and sweets. Surely one of them you will like. For your entertainment hobby, enjoy the game center, which specializes in UFO catcher games. For the weary tourist, dip your tired feet into a hot water bath or take a relaxing body massage. Isn’t sound good? If you’re a kind of shopper, there’s also a variety of souvenir shops, a Hawaiian merchandise store, and some locally produced goods from the surrounding prefectures.

Where to go: Umi-Hotaru a rest stop in the middle of the sea.
Getting there: by car or highway bus. The buses go between Kawasaki and Kisarazu stations. For drivers, the Aqua-line toll costs ¥3,000 for a standard-sized car. From Tokyo, head toward Haneda Airport via the Wangan Road (湾岸線), and then change to the Aqua-line at the Ukejima (浮島) junction.
Once you’ve completed your rest at Umi-Hotaru, you can either do a U-turn back to Tokyo or continue on your way to Chiba.
